AERIAL CITY | APRIL 5-7, 2024

This event is open to everyone, at any level of ability, anywhere in the world!

This event is a qualifier for Nationals. Points earned here will increase your chances of being invited to compete in person at Nationals, whether you sign up for the LIVE or In the Wild option. Winning at a qualifier does not guarantee your invitation to compete in person at Nationals.

Registration is closed. Our next event is Nationals. Everyone is welcome to enter Nationals In the Wild.

Venue

Aerial City, 9012 FM1976 STE. 301, Converse, TX 78109

Waivers (2 Required when competing LIVE)

  • ALL Performers (LIVE and In the Wild) are required to sign an Aerialympics waiver before performing. Waivers for Aerialympics are only required once per season.

  • All LIVE performers are also required to sign a waiver for the venue (Cirque Athletics) prior to competing. This is a second waiver, separate from the one you sign for the Aerialympics. All waivers for performers who are not yet 18 must be signed by the performer’s legal parent or guardian.

Apparatus

You are welcome and encouraged to bring your own apparatus to meet any specific needs you might have. All apparatus will undergo an assessment by our head rigger prior to being used in the event.

We only rig single-point apparatus at our regional competitions. If you have an apparatus that requires 2 points (e.g., static trapeze), please bring a spreader bar and plan for a single-point rig response in your apparatus.

Note that if the equipment is deemed unsafe when inspected onsite, we have the right to refuse to rig it. In no case will the event organizers or host studio be liable for issues you encounter when using your own apparatus, even after a passing inspection.

Health and Safety

Top-of-mind for many competitors is how to navigate the ever-changing Covid landscape. At this time we're going with the rules in whatever location we're holding the competition, and for Texas that means no vaccine requirements, no masking requirement, and no social distancing requirement. We will, of course, support the personal decisions of each person who attends, but we believe medical decisions are best made between individuals and their doctors and parents (if they are a minor). We are encouraging anyone who feels uncomfortable with this decision to perform using the virtual option, which allows everyone to have more control over their environment.

Another question we occasionally receive is emergency care. After extensive conversation with studio owners and performers we are taking the common-sense approach of knowing when to call the professionals, rather than having a dedicated medical individual on staff. Much like when you attend your regular classes or engage in performance opportunities, we will rely on the excellent emergency response of local health care providers. Again, if you are uncomfortable with this decision, please use the virtual performance option, where you can arrange your own medical professionals to be available to you, should you wish.

Workshops and Events

All workshops are open to anyone attending in person who meets the prerequisites for the desired workshop. You don’t have to be a competitor to sign up for the workshops but you do have to sign waivers. You will be prompted to create a profile. If you need help with any of these steps, please contact the studio.

Open Studio

There will be open studio opportunities on Friday, April 5! Go to the Aerial City website or download the app. Go to the class schedule, scroll down to the calendar, navigate to April 5, and choose a time slot.

Workshops

You do not have to be a competitor to register for a workshop. All workshops are the responsibility of the host studio. You can register for them on the Aerial City website.

Workshops being offered include:

Wheeldowns and Star Drops

Wheeldowns and star drops are the wow factors in many performances! In this workshop we will break down horizontal balance and rotation to strengthen these movements. In addition to understanding the technicality of horizontal drops, you’ll have the opportunity to explore some variations of wheeldowns and star drops.

This workshop is for intermediate to advanced levels & skills required to attend are climb, invert, catchers wrap and one s-wrap entrance.

Intro to Hula Hoop

Come learn the basics to hula hooping, a flow art that combines the hoop and dancing. This workshop will be geared towards beginners, but all levels of experience are welcome. You will learn how to manipulate the hoop around your body through a short combination that includes essential moves and transitions any novice  hooper will need on their flow journey!

Duo Silks

Have you ever wanted to explore partner tricks on the silks? This workshop will give you the chance to explore shapes and the basic techniques of how to maneuver with another person in the air. A partner isn’t required, however it’s helpful if you have a friend who’s willing to tag along and be equally as crazy as you.

This workshop is for intermediate level & up with the ability to climb, strength to hold not just your weight but to help support a partner, and have a strong understanding of wraps (such as crossback) & foot locks.

Handstand Workshop

We will be working on some basic inversions, including crows, headstands, and various handstand positions. We will also focus on strength building exercises to increase body awareness and control. Come learn some wonderful foundational skills that can help with aerial and beyond!

Hammock Split Sequencing

This choreographed hammock flow will include long lines, stunning shapes, and lots of splits! Full splits are not a requirement to join! The workshop will start with conditioning and tips for working towards or improving your splits, then we’ll explore how to engage certain muscles during your wraps and transitions to keep beautiful leg lines during this flow.

Basic Tumbling

In this workshop we will learn a basic tumbling sequence and individual skills to help develop confidence and strength in floor work. There is no prior experience needed, but is not recommended for anyone with shoulder, wrist, or back injuries/limitations. The skills we will focus on will include some inversions, rolls, and back bends (with support). We will also be working on some strength and stabilization skills that can be done outside of class to continue development.

Dynamic Lyra

Illusions, rolls and more! If you love to flip in and out, around and through the Lyra, this workshop is for you! In this workshop we will work on intermediate dynamic movements as we use them to explore different pathways and transitions in a short combination.

Prerequisites: beats from top bar, Russian roll downs and ups, running man, pullover.

Juggling 101

Begin your journey in one of the oldest and most iconic circus disciplines, juggling! In this beginner friendly workshop we will learn the basics and fundamentals of three ball juggling and learn three patterns to practice.
